Adopt Donald, Fuel his Feast!
By adopting Donald, your support goes a long way to helping pay for the his food costs, which are quite considerable. Highland cows can eat up to 70 kilograms (150 pounds) of grass per day, and spend about 8 hours a day grazing. Known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in rough pastures, Highland cattle even consume vegetation that other cattle would avoid. While primarily grazing, they can also be supplemented with hay, silage, and other feeds, especially during winter months.
Donald is still on some additional hay & meal mix… partly because the pasture is not yet able to support him, and partly because he is spoiled, and love meal!
Highland coos, like all cattle, actually only have one stomach, but it is divided into four compartments – hence the confusion. The rumen, the largest compartment, can hold up to 100 liters in adults. This unique digestive system allows them to digest grasses and other coarse plant matter that most other animals wouldn’t be able to eat.
